KOAMTAC Debuts Proximity-Based Scanning for the KDC180 Wearable Bluetooth Barcode Scanner

Date. January 7, 2025Author.

The KDC180 features a proximity sensor that enables hands-free scanning by detecting objects within 1 meter (3.28 ft). When an object with a barcode is detected, the sensor activates the scan, offering a more energy-efficient solution compared to always-on automatic scanning methods.

KOAMTAC® Inc., the leader in ConvergedScan™ solutions—including software barcode decoders, Bluetooth companion scanners, barcode and RFID Sleds, mobile point-of-sale (mPOS) systems, and enterprise charging solutions— has unveiled a new feature for its popular KDC180 wearable Bluetooth barcode scanner: proximity-based scanning mode. Through utilizing a proximity sensor, the KDC can automatically detect objects within a 2-meter range and then search and scan barcodes during a predefined duration, delivering hands-free and manual trigger-free operation that boosts user efficiency.

The KDC180’s proximity-based scanning mode offers hands-free and manual trigger-free scanning options alongside KOAMTAC wearable attachments like the Ring Trigger and Safety Glove. This mode allows the scanner to automatically detect objects and scan barcodes without the need for manual triggers, providing users with more flexibility to choose the best method for their task. Unlike presentation mode, where the scan engine’s camera continuously looks for a barcode to read, proximity mode activates the scan only when an object is detected by the proximity sensor. Additionally, proximity mode consumes less power than presentation mode, making it a more energy-efficient choice.

“Our new proximity-based scanning option for the KDC180 takes away the hassle of manual triggers, making user’s scanning tasks smoother and more efficient,” said Hanjin Lee, CEO of KOAMTAC. “Hands-free operation and lower power consumption mean businesses can get more done while cutting costs. It’s a win-win for productivity and savings.”

The KDC180 Proximity-based scanning feature is expected to be launched in the 1st quarter of 2025.
