Maintaining Good Hygiene with Your KDC

Clean KOAMTAC SKXPro and Other KDC Scanners

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recognizes that transmission of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19 to persons from surfaces contaminated with the virus has not been well documented. They recommend the cleaning of visibly dirty surfaces followed by disinfection as best practice for prevention in addition to washing your hands and avoiding touching your face.

What does this mean for your KDC?
Now, more than ever, it is important to maintain hygiene and sanitize your KDC devices and wearable accessories. Thorough disinfection of KDCs, phones, tablets, computers, and other electronic devices is essential for minimizing infection in both public and your work spaces.

Whether you work in a hospital, warehouse, delivery service, or any location utilizing a KDC or other mobile device, it is critical that you take care to ensure your device is clean. KOAMTAC has always taken hygiene seriously, especially as many of our KDC devices are used between multiple workers from shift to shift. KOAMTAC highly recommends implementing a device cleaning regimen and policy for your company if there is not already one in place to help ensure everyone is properly disinfecting all devices on a routine basis.

While each device is slightly different, you can employ these strategies for ensuring your device is sanitized for your or your coworkers’ day. Below, we’ve separated the cleaning recommendations by device type to help you ensure the ultimate cleanliness.

First – put on a pair of disposable gloves.

Companion Scanners
KDC20, KDC30, KDC80, KDC100, KDC180, KDC185, KDC200, KDC250, KDC270, KDC280, KC300, KDC350, KDC380

Companion Scanners may be the easiest scanners to clean and sanitize. Using a disinfectant or alcohol wipe, thoroughly wipe down each side of the KDC. Pay special attention to the buttons and areas around them as they are the places touched most often and therefore most likely to carry more germs.

SmartSled Scanners
KDC410, KDC415, KDC425, KDC430, KDC470, KDC475, KDC480, KDC485, SKXPro, SKX5

SmartSled Scanners come in a variety of form factors and provide a bit more complexity for cleaning. In any case, use a disinfectant or alcohol wipe to wipe down all sides of the KDC and case. Pay extra attention to the scan buttons and where the KDC is held in the hand as these are the places touched most often and therefore most likely to carry more germs. The battery door is another area that requires a bit of extra attention.

If your scanner is attached to a case via screws or an adaptor, we recommend being sure to get in the space where the KDC and device case and/or adaptor are connected, as well. Being extra diligent to get in every tiny space is essential.

Wearable Scanner Accessories
KOAMTAC highly recommends each individual using a Finger Trigger Glove or Ring Scanner to have their own wearable device. Even with your own device, cleaning it with an alcohol or disinfectant wipe is highly recommended before and after each shift (and multiple times during, as well).

Additional Accessories
As with wearable accessories, we highly recommend a different Lanyard for each employee.

Cables and Charging Cradles should be unplugged from their power source and wiped down with a disinfectant wipe or cleaner regularly, being careful to avoid the charging components themselves. Ensure the cable or charging cradle is completely dry before plugging it back into the power source.

In addition to cleaning your KDCs, we highly suggest cleaning your host device whether it is a mobile phone, tablet, or computer (including the mouse and keyboard) according to recommendations from the manufacturer. Additional cleaning and disinfection per CDC guidelines of all surfaces is also highly recommended.
